Car was traveling up to 100 mph, witnesses say

ORLANDO, Fla. – A woman was killed and two others were seriously injured late Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash in Orlando, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fatal wreck happened near the intersection of Edgewater Drive and Eggleston Avenue near Lee Road.

Troopers said Darrin Verrett, 31, of Orlando, was driving a Dodge Charger at a high rate of speed and crashed into a white Nissan Maxima near Lee Road.  A woman riding in the Charger died, and Verrett was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, according to the FHP.

The driver of the Maxima, a 73-year-old woman, was also taken to ORMC  with serious injuries, troopers said.

Witnesses told News 6 that the Charger was going as fast as 100 mph before the crash.

The cars ended up in front of a house, but no one inside was injured.
