ROTONDA WEST, Fla. – A man diving for golf balls at a Florida golf course was attacked by an alligator, officials said.

The attack happened around 1 p.m. Friday at Rotonda Golf & Country Club, northwest of Fort Myers on Florida's Gulf Coast.

Charlotte County fire officials said the man managed to free himself from the gator and call 911.

The victim, about 50 years old, suffered injuries to his left arm and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital as a trauma alert patient, officials said.

No other details, including the man's condition and the size of the alligator, have been released.
