Daytona Beach man struck, killed by semitruck in Volusia County, troopers say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 71-year-old Daytona Beach man was fatally struck by a semitruck early Saturday in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred shortly after midnight on West International Speedway Boulevard at Grande Champion Boulevard, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the man was walking in a southerly direction and entered the eastbound lanes of West International Speedway Boulevard. The man was not in a marked crosswalk and had entered the direct path of a semitruck, which struck him as a result, the report states.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. The semitruck driver, a 53-year-old Jacksonville man, was not injured in the crash and remained at the scene, according to the report.

FHP is still investigating.
