Can I text while stopped at a red light in Florida?

Trooper Steve explains Florida traffic laws

Trooper Steve on Tuesday was asked, “Am I allowed to text while sitting at a red light?”

Yes — in most cases.

“If you’re at a light that is solid red and traffic is not moving, then yes,” Trooper Steve said. “However, if you’re in a construction zone or school zone, you’re not even allowed to touch your phone.”

Trooper Steve said if you’re not moving when the light turns green, you’re committing a violation.

“The biggest thing I could suggest is to find the most convenient mount that works for you,” he added. “I use a magnet mount. Others use mounts that connect to cup holders. There are many options.”

So, yes, you can text at a red light, but Trooper Steve said it’s must that drivers pay attention.
