Motorcyclist airlifted to Orlando hospital

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A car and motorcycle crashed early Friday in Volusia County, causing both vehicles to catch fire and seriously injuring the biker, officials said.

The crash happened on Nova Road near International Speedway Boulevard in Daytona Beach.

According to Daytona Beach police, both vehicles were traveling south on Nova Road when the car attempted to change lanes and didn't see the motorcyclist. The car struck the motorcycle and ran over the bike, dragging the motorcycle 75 feet before coming to a stop, police said.

The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike, and both vehicles caught fire, police said.

Bystanders pulled the motorcyclist from the wreckage, police said. The motorcyclist was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center with severe burns and injuries, police said.

The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to Halifax Hospital, according to police.

The name of the motorcyclist has not been released.

An investigation is ongoing.
