The FHP said Ian Joel Morkan Colon, of Indialantic, was driving a 2007 four-door Lincoln north in the southbound lane of State Road A1A .
"(Colon) was going in the wrong direction," Trooper Steven Montiero said. “There is a possibility that alcohol is involved. We did a blood draw on everybody."
Troopers said Colon's vehicle crashed into the front of a 1990 four-door Mercedes driven by James Bellamy Bickerstaff, of Indialantic. Bickerstaff died at the scene, troopers said.
A 40-year-old passenger in Bickerstaff's car was seriously injured, the FHP said. She was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center.
Colon suffered serious injuries and was also taken to the Melbourne hospital.
No charges have been filed. An investigation is continuing.
The road was blocked for several hours but later reopened.
