Police said Howard, who had three passengers, was driving south when a vehicle driven by Selwyn Williams, 49, of Holly Hill, crossed the median and struck her car head-on.

Howard died at the scene, police said. Her passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Williams was treated at a hospital and released, police said. Charges are pending against him.

It was the second fatal head-on crash in Volusia County in less than a week. Two people were killed Friday on West International Speedway Boulevard and Brick Road after the car in which they were riding was struck head-on by another motorist.
