ORLANDO, Fla. – The principal of Jones High School, in Orlando, resigned Monday after the district began "looking into some questionable student record issues at the school," officials said.
Orange County Public Schools said Tuesday in a news release that Roderick Waldon noted personal reasons for his resignation.
"It has been confirmed that no senior’s graduation status is compromised, and athletic participation for the past school year was within guidelines," OCPS said in a statement. "Specific irregularities which were discovered are being dealt with through the appropriate governing bodies. The school district cannot comment on student record information which is protected by FERPA, a federal law."
The Florida High School Athletic Association, the governing body for high school athletics in the state, said it was contacted Monday about a potential issue at Jones High.
"The school district is wrapping up its investigation (Tuesday)," the FHSAA told News 6. "Following their investigation, we will apply our protocol for situations like this."
No other details were released.
Dr. Leighanne Bradshaw will serve as acting principal, effective immediately, for the remainder of the school year.
Bradshaw is the former principal at Oak Ridge High School and has been working closely with Jones High over the last year as a high school executive area director, officials said.
OCPS said parents of students who attend Jones High can contact Bradshaw at the school for any specific needs.
