Someone who wants to become a licensed Florida venomous snake and lizard permit holder has to undergo a "rigorous" process before they can receive a permit from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Each applicant must provide the FWC with documentation of at least 1,000 hours of experience for each venomous reptile they request to have a permit on, the FWC said.

A permit holder is inspected by the FWC at least once per year.
"They must develop and maintain a Captive Wildlife Critical Incident/Disaster Plan, a venomous reptile bite protocol and provide the FWC all documentation regarding the source of the reptiles," FWC said.
There are over 290 licensed venomous reptile permit holders in the state.
