The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service delisted 21 species of animals from the list of endangered species due to going extinct in 2023.
While many of those animals could be found in other parts of the country, only one species was from Florida: the Bachman’s Warbler.

This bird featured yellow feathers with grey wings, stretching around 12 cm in length, according to the FWS.
While it was originally listed on the endangered species list in 1967, the last confirmed sighting was in the 1980s, the FWS’ report says.

Federal officials say that the bird could be found at the southern tip of the Florida peninsula, primarily in Monroe and Miami-Dade counties.
According to the Florida state officials, the bird lived in forests and swamps, using local vegetation and Spanish moss to help build its nests.
However, collisions with lighthouses in the late 1800s caused the species to become threatened, and its large breeding range prevented these birds from finding mates.
Along with the other 20 species, this warbler was initially proposed to be taken off the endangered species list in 2021, though that decision was finalized in October earlier this year.
