OCOEE, Fla. – James in Ocoee emailed us about his gutter overflowing every time it rained.
We discovered leaves were jammed into the downspout and they weren’t moving so we unclogged the clog!
We purchased:
Nothing
We brought with us:
A socket driver (or wrench)
A 1/4″ socket
We recommend:
Gloves
Step 1
Try your hose first. Turn your hose on, climb up on a ladder and try and push your running hose down through your downspout. Wear gloves, the aluminum gutters and hardware can be sharp! You’ll have to ram the hose to get it through the curves of the downspout. Try working it up and down just a few inches at a time.
Step 2
If you can’t get the hose to go through, take apart the downspout. Usually it’s connected by only one screw and it’s a hex head screw. Most downspout screws can be unscrewed with a 1/4″ socket.
Step 3
Grab your socket driver or wrench, attach the 1/4″ socket to the driver, and unscrew the screw. Pull it out and save it for later.
Step 4
Pull apart the downspout pieces.
Step 5
Use your hose to blast water through all of the downspout pieces to clear the clog(s).
Step 6
Reassemble the downspout.
