THE VILLAGES, Fla. – The average cost for a gallon of gasoline is up 6 cents from a month ago but has dropped by about 1 cent over the past week, according to AAA and GasBuddy data.

This week marks some relief for drivers who have watched gas prices rise in the months leading up to May.

”We’ve seen the national average fade slightly again as oil prices have cooled and our spring peak appears to be more confidently behind us,” GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan declared in a statement Monday.

Gas prices have remained a troublesome piece of the effort to tamp down inflation, sitting today at about 10 cents a gallon more than they were at this time last year.

The ongoing war in Ukraine, which resulted in the targeting of Russian oil facilities, and the growing conflict surrounding Israel’s war in Gaza helped push prices higher in the spring months.
