When daylight saving time ENDS (in November), I usually sing the old holiday favorite, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.”

I just like it dark at my 6 p.m. bed time (I wake up at 2:30 a.m. for work), but I’m being selfish. Aren’t I? I digress.

The big story this week has been the storms and the heat ahead of huge changes this weekend. I’ve talked about the weather roller coaster ride before. This weekend certainly will be one wild ride (like that Rip Ride Rockit at Universal)!

Highs are from near 90° today, to only the 60s on Sunday! That’s after starting out in the 30s and 40s Sunday morning! We’re going from summer right back to winter and it’s not even spring yet! Click here for more on this weekend’s forecast and the big temperature changes.

Apparently winter misses the Sunshine State. Meteorologist Jonathan Kegges here to talk about a HUGE blast of cold for the weekend. An unseasonably strong cold front looks to slice through Central Florida Saturday, bringing with it the threat for strong storms and mid winter-like temperatures.

Click here for the timeline and for how cold it’s going to get Sunday morning. Start looking for that winter coat again. We also lose an hour of sleep this weekend to gain daylight in the evening. I know the time change stinks BUT if you like daylight in your summer evenings, it’s beneficial.

👃 Have you ever smelled the rain?

Raindrops falling on an umbrella

Hey there, Insiders! It’s meteorologist Samara Cokinos here to assure you that YES you CAN smell the rain. It’s actually pretty cool and one of my favorite things to smell, besides fresh coffee brewing of course. That smell in the air that we associate with rain, actually has a name too. Read all about the science behind the smell of rain by clicking here!

🌽 Forecasting Change: More growing degree days 🦟

(Climate Central)

We are coming off a very warm week here in Central Florida. Chief meteorologist Tom Sorrells here. This week we have been either setting new records, tying records, or getting close to record highs. This weekend, things will change but only for a little while.

This week on Forecasting Change, we look at the warming trends of the last 50 years and what it means to our growing degree days.
