ORLANDO, Fla. – A 2-year-old child has been found dead in Orlando, according to officials from the Orlando Police Department.
Officers said they have an active death investigation involving the child at the 800 block of Bethune Drive.
Crime scene tape surrounded the home on Bethune Drive for about seven hours, as investigators and the medical examiner collected evidence to try to figure out what had happened inside the home.
"It's real devastating," said one neighbor, who declined to give his name, but said his son had played with the child who had died. "I get emotional thinking about it because I don't want it to happen to my son."
Neighbors told News 6 the family moved onto the street less than a year ago.
Kenneth Randall lives two doors down and helped build the steps for an outdoor library, which sits right next to the home where this all happened. He said someone who lived at the 2-year-old's home helped build the library as well.
"Very sociable people," Randall said of the family. "You used to see them out sitting in the garage in the evening."
Orlando police have not identified the 2-year-old who died.
