TAVARES, Fla. – When a Tavares police officer loudly banged on Robert Marsala's door Thursday afternoon, the officer said he could hear "loud music and bass" coming from 721 E. Rosewood Lane.
According to the arrest report, Marsala said, "Yo, which one of you (expletive) is stupid enough to beat on my door!? (Expletive), it is broad daylight and I will play my music as loud as I want to! I know my rights! (Expletive)! If you want me out of this residence, you better go get the whole force! Sheriff's Office and all! You don't know what you got coming to you if you stay here!"
The officer described feeling that his safety was in jeopardy, left the house and returned with three more officers.
Neighbors told Local 6 they felt their walls shaking and windows rattling all the way across the street. They said Marsala often plays his music loud enough for them to hear it.
"You can hear it through these walls and that's not a big element, but it's pretty loud when it's going through all the houses and everything," said one woman who declined to give her name. "Just a steady boom, boom, boom."
Another neighbor compared the music to the propane tanks exploding at the nearby Blue Rhino plant last year.
"It was hours of continuous boom, boom, boom," said Brenda Bishop. "You see the sparks flying up in the sky and how does the music compare to that night? Pretty much the same."
The older neighbors in the Rosewood Homes community told Local 6 they're afraid to confront their younger neighbors like Marsala and that's why they called police.
"If you have the police coming to your door and your attitude is bring the whole police force, that tells you something right there," said Carol Lane, secretary of the Rosewood Homes Association.
According to the arrest report, when police returned to Marsala's home Thursday afternoon, they took up posts at the front and back door. They said Marsala tried to leave, was told to stop and went back inside. An officer followed Marsala inside and shot Marsala with a stun gun when he refused to stop and show his hands and tried to duck into another room.
Marsala was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest without violence, breach of peace, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Marsala has since bonded out of the Lake County Jail.
Lake County Jail records show that Marsala was also arrested March 14, 2010 for simple assault with the threat / intent to do violence, resisting an officer without violence, and disturbing / breach of peace.
Marsala did not come to the door or answer the phone during numerous attempts to contact him.
According to the arrest report, on his way to jail, Marsala told the officer, "One of you (expletive) cops is getting shot in the head when I get out! In fact, you (expletive) better never let me out!"
