News 6 partners with Walgreens for flu shots

ORLANDO, Fla. – News 6 wants to help you stay healthy this flu season, so we've partnered with Walgreens to provide complimentary flu shots.

On Wednesday, News 6 is inviting the public to stop by the station or any local Walgreens to get their flu shot.

The Centers for Disease Control says this is the best time of year to get your vaccination.

"It has different peaks normally peaks out in December or January but in order to get protected, it takes about two weeks for antibodies to form and get protected," said Vipul Vassa, pharmacy manager and immunization trainer at Walgreens.

Individuals over the age of 18, who are uninsured or underinsured can obtain a flu shot voucher – good for one free flu shot. Walgreens will have pharmacists on site at the News 6 studios to administer these flu shots or you can redeemed them at any Walgreens or Healthcare Clinic location. Vouchers are available on a first come, first-served basis and available while supplies last, and subject to terms and conditions on the voucher.

No appointment is necessary and when you get your vaccine from Walgreens, you're also getting results for a child in need.

"We have our get a shot, give a shot program whereby if you get a flu shot at Walgreens, we also provide a life saving vaccine to a child in a third world, developing country," said Vassa.

News 6 is located at 4466 N. John Young Parkway in Orlando.
Vouchers will be available at all local Walgreens locations to News 6 viewers.
In addition, anyone with questions about flu shots can call 888-436-6665 from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the day of the event.

Anyone getting a flu shot at no cost with the voucher at Walgreens is asked to say,"News 6 gets results."
