French artist spends week encased in a rock

Man specializes in endurance-testing performances

PARIS – A French artist is free after spending a week encased in a rock.

Abraham Poincheval has been locked inside a 12-ton limestone boulder since Feb. 22.

A body-shaped hole large enough to sit in was hollowed out inside the rock.

Fresh air was pumped into the rock through tiny holes so Poincheval could breathe.

The artist was also supplied with water, soup and dried meat.

Poincheval specializes in endurance-testing performances. He said his next adventure will involve sitting on eggs in an attempt to get them to hatch.
