Man arrested for carjacking a man he asked for a cigarette, police say

APOPKA, Fla. – A man is in custody for armed carjacking after he asked the victim for a cigarette on Thursday, officials said. 

The victim told police that he parked his truck at a 7-Eleven parking lot and went to purchase a pack of cigarettes.

When he returned backed to his truck, he noticed two black males in the parking lot. One of the men was identified as Eric Lowe, who asked him for a cigarette, and as the victim reached into his truck for the cigarette, he had a small black semi-auto pistol pointed at him, police said.

The man then told the victim to take his cell phone out of his pocket, throw it into the pickup truck and give him the keys, the report said.

The man complied and then ran back into the gas station and called the police.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office contacted police after finding the victim’s vehicle with two men and one woman inside, who they took into custody.

Deputies found a black firearm under the passenger seat, the report said.

Lowe is charged with carjacking with a firearm, robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, obstructing justice,  larceny grand theft, and possession of a firearm.
