Detectives release video of suspect in woman's murder

32-year-old Amber Carruthers killed at Econolodge on OBT

ORLANDO, Fla. – New surveillance video released Thursday shows the last person who saw Amber Carruthers alive before she was killed at an Orlando hotel, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

In the video, a man in dark clothing is seen walking down the hall of the hotel following 32-year-old Carruthers.

Detectives said that while the man's face is not visible they want people to examine his gait to see if they recognize the way he moves.

Carruthers was found dead June 17, inside a room in the Econolodge hotel on South Orange Blossom Trail. Deputies said the man in the video is likely the last person who saw her alive.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office is calling the man a suspect in Carruthers' death. Detectives said she was killed by trauma, but did not elaborate on how she died.

Carruthers' 7-year-old son, Donovan was reported missing 10 days after her murder. He was later found in California with Carruthers' boyfriend, Joseff Rhodes, 41, who brought the boy to local authorities.

Donovan is back in Central Florida in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.

California police said Rhodes is cooperating with authorities and is not facing any charges at this time.

Crimeline is offering a $5,000 reward for tips that lead to an arrest. Anonymous tipsters are asked to call 1-800-423-TIPS (8477) with any information about the person seen in the video.
