Sebastian officer fighting to get charges dismissed after K-9's death

Eric Antosia charged with animal cruelty

SEBASTIAN, Fla. – A police officer charged in the death of his K-9 partner is now working to get his charges dismissed.

Sebastian police Officer Eric Antosia is charged with animal cruelty for the death of a K-9 named Diesel.

Diesel was found dead in April in the back of a patrol vehicle parked outside the courthouse in Melbourne.

Court documents revealed that investigators believe Diesel was left in the vehicle for several hours.

Police said there is a heat alarm system that is supposed to go off if the vehicle becomes too hot, but lawyers for Antosia said he was in a backup vehicle and the heat alarm system was not set up the same way.
