Woman found dead in car ID'd; Orlando police search for carjacker

2nd victim taken to hospital with gunshot wound, police say

ORLANDO, Fla. – Police continue to search for a gunman after one woman was killed and another was injured in a shooting near an Orlando neighborhood.

Police said they were called to the intersection of Lobelia Drive and Vista Largo Drive around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a vehicle crash and gunfire.

When officers arrived, they found two vehicles that were involved in the crash. Investigators said one of the vehicles was abandoned, with a trail of blood leading away from the car.

The body of a woman was found inside the other vehicle, according to police. She was identified by police on Thursday as Radeya Haughton. Her death has been ruled a homicide, police said.

As officers began investigating, they found another woman nearby suffering from a gunshot wound.

"We don't know (her) involvement with the scene," Orlando police Lt. Jonathan Bigelow said.  "We believe (she) was connected to the scene just based on where (she) was found."

After the crash and shooting, police said a man in his late teens or early 20s carjacked a driver nearby, police said.

"We do have a witness saying they were carjacked," Bigelow said.  "We have a carjacking and that vehicle left here at a high rate of speed."

The culprit was described as wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and carrying a possible black semiautomatic handgun.

Police were looking for a 2001 green Nissan Xterra, but the vehicle was later found abandoned. No details have been released about where the vehicle was located or what was found inside.

According to investigators, a handgun and assault rifle were recovered at the initial crash scene.
Police said they have not ruled out the possibility of additional suspects.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
