Power shut down in Cocoa after man electrocuted by power line, officials say

Deputies say power is off in area of Friday Road, Frankie Lane

COCOA, Fla. – An electrocution in Cocoa has prompted a power shutdown in the area, according to officials from the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Tod Goodyear said a man was electrocuted while a cutting a limb on a tree that was in contact with power lines in the area of Friday Road and Frankie Lane. He said Florida Power and Light shut down power to the area, which is affecting traffic signals.

The lift the man was standing on while cutting the trees cannot be moved away from the electrical source right now and is still on the scene, according to Goodyear. The man has been pronounced dead. 

FPL officials confirmed that power was turned off in connection to the fatal incident and said 94 residences are without power. The expected duration of the outage is currently unknown, Goodyear said.
