Lawyer: Florida guards intimidating witnesses to inmate beating

Motion states guards have threatened inmates

Cheryl Weimar

ORLANDO, Fla. – A lawyer for a female inmate who claims in a lawsuit that she was left paralyzed from a beating by four Florida prison guards says other corrections officers are trying to intimidate inmates who witnessed what happened.

Attorney Ryan Andrews says in an emergency motion filed Wednesday that prison guards have told inmates that they would suffer the same fate as Cheryl Weimar, who was left a paraplegic last month.

The emergency motion seeks to stop corrections officers and administrators from the Lowell Correctional Institution in Ocala from having contact with Weimar.

Weimar is under guard at a hospital, undergoing treatment for a broken neck.

A spokesman for the Department of Corrections said the agency doesn't comment on pending litigation.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the case.
