CAPE CORAL, Fla. – As Hurricane Ian devastated the west coast of Florida bringing 150 mph winds, many people were hunkered down in their homes to brave the storm.
During the same time, Amanda Mahr was busy giving birth to her first son via C-section in a Cape Coral hospital.

Tuesday night, the expecting mother weathered the winds and rising floodwaters that were already beginning to strike the coast in Cape Coral to give birth to her baby boy after doctors called to tell her she needed to do so immediately.
The morning after Mahr’s admission into the hospital, George came into the world around 9 a.m., but rather than being greeted by sunshine, the new family was forced to shelter in a hallway for seven hours to ride out the storm.
According to the New York Times, Amanda and her husband Matthew were allowed back into their birthing suite around 9 p.m.
Other hospitals in the area were being forced to evacuate patients on Thursday due to issues with power and water supply.
The couple told the New York Times that the hospital lost power Thursday but was stable and running on a generator.
The Mahrs said their home suffered some water damage, but the nursery they built for their son was the only part that wasn’t impacted.
