Biketoberfest begins in Daytona Beach

Event runs through Sunday

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The roar returns to Central Florida for Biketoberfest 2017.

"It's getting full, which is great," said Jane Cathell, of West Virginia.

Bikes filled up Main Street ahead of the kickoff for the 25th annual event on Thursday.

"There's so many lovely bikes here. I mean it's good for the community. Making money for you guys," Cathell said.

Just ask shop owner Inessa Hansen, who said she rushed to get her second store open just in time.

"Five weeks out of the year are my moments. We bank on it. Everything else throughout the year, keeps us alive and our doors open," said Hansen, owner of One Sexy Biker Chick.

Hansen and other shops said they're not letting two hurricanes or even Saturday's weather affect business.

"The first day we were setting up, tents are flying everywhere. Wind, people are like blowing off the road, it's crazy," said Hunter Whitley, an employee for Official Event Merchandise. "It looks like we have a good crowd right now. I'm pretty excited for it."

Thirty-five thousand people attended last year's Biketoberfest, but the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitor Bureau said it's expecting 100,000 people for this year's chrome anniversary.

Officials said visitors can expect a lot of fun events and features this year, including a mobile app that plans out bike rides, Biketoberfest Snapchat filters and a new collectable poker chip that'll be revealed on Thursday. The event runs through Sunday.
