Cellphone, wallet stop bullet from hitting man

Shots ring out in Washington DC

WASHINGTON – Authorities say a cellphone and wallet likely saved a man's life.

Brian Harris says he was sitting on his porch Sunday night when shots rang out in his Washington neighborhood.

"I was sitting in the chair. I put my coffee down and something hit me in my stomach," Harris says.  "I got up and moved."

When Harris ran into his home, he didn't find blood or even a wound. Instead, he found the bullet and shell casing next to his wallet and shattered cellphone.

Authorities say Harris was an innocent bystander, and believe the two items saved him from being seriously injured or even killed.
