ORLANDO, Fla. – Soon a new flag will be flying high above the city of Orlando.
The city of Orlando announced their new city flag on Monday after an Orlando City Council meeting.

Earlier this year, the city of Orlando launched a flag design contest. The city received more than 1,100 flag designs from all over the world, and received over 10,000 votes on which flag was the favorite.
The winning flag design artist is Tim Eggert, a UCF alumni and graphic designer for an Orlando-based engineering firm.
The flag's design was envisioned to highlight Orlando's rich culture and bright future. The fountain in the middle represents Lake Eola, while the six equal segments on the fountain's base represent that city's six commission districts.
The "O" in the middle of the flag represents Orlando's "unity, connectivity and timelessness" while its yellow color represents the "sunshine, hope and happiness that thrive in our great city."
The new flag will be raised on July 31, which is Orlando's 142nd birthday. The ceremony will take place at the Orlando City Hall plaza at 1 p.m.
