ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando man driving a dump truck was killed Wednesday morning when a tire separated, causing the truck to crash and overturn on State Road 408 in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The driver, whose name has not been released, died at the scene of the single-vehicle crash, which occurred around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday on S.R. 408 near North Pine Hills Road in Orlando.
The FHP said the dump truck, which was headed westbound in an E-Pass lane, sustained "significant left front tire separation," causing the vehicle to sideswipe a barrier wall before overturning.
The driver became trapped in the truck and died, troopers said.
The truck was carrying concrete, cardboard and other materials, scattering trash across the roadway.
Traffic in both directions on S.R. 408 was only getting by in the pay lanes, although tolls have been lifted in the area.
