Pantsless man crashes into Florida jail, throws rubber snakes while making threats, deputies say

Joseph Leedy, 40, faces charges of assault on officers

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. – A homeless man wearing a blouse was arrested after driving a sedan into the lobby of the Martin County Jail on Monday night, making threats, fighting with first responders and expressing a desire to “kill everyone,” according to sheriff’s office.

Joseph Leedy, 40, faces charges of criminal mischief over $1,000 and four counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said on social media.

Surveillance video from the jail’s lobby and parking lot shows the sedan approach and smash through the glass doors. Once inside, Leedy exited the vehicle and reportedly began pouring motor oil on the lobby’s floor, saying he wanted to set it on fire, the post states.

Leedy’s statements were further described as “homicidal,” introduced in the post as a homeless man who “came here to kill police” and allegedly said things about how he wanted to “kill everyone” while he threw rubber snakes on the floor and fought with deputies and fire personnel, all while “wearing a ladies blouse and no pants,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Leedy was restrained and taken to a hospital where he reportedly continued to be uncooperative, soon taken back to the jail for booking.

Though Leedy was not able to breach the steel doors leading further into the jail, deputies say he still caused thousands of dollars in damage and extra protection will be installed. For now, no visitors are being allowed into the jail.
