TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – State employees will receive an extra day off for the Fourth of July weekend this year, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced on Monday.

In a release, a spokesperson for DeSantis explained that state offices in Florida will be closed on Friday, July 5, in celebration of the Independence Day weekend.

As a result, workers in these offices will have a four-day holiday weekend, the release says. This includes nearly 100,000 people in the State Personnel System.

“I am proud to reward our state employees,” DeSantis said. “Following another historic legislative session that delivered tax breaks and record investments for Floridians — all while reducing spending — I hope our state employees use this additional time off to enjoy Florida’s Freedom Summer with their loved ones and celebrate America.”
