KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – Miami Beach police confirmed Friday afternoon that the human head that washed ashore on Key Biscayne earlier in the week belonged to a 19-year-old swimmer who disappeared off South Beach over the weekend, according to News 6 partner Local 10 News.
Victor Castaneda had been missing since Saturday after he and his sister were caught in a rip current. His family told Local 10 News they had been hoping for closure in the days following his disappearance.

A Good Samaritan rescued his sister, but Castaneda’s body never resurfaced.
Authorities said his remains washed ashore on the beach behind a Key Biscayne condominium building on Tuesday morning.
Miami Beach police said Friday that they are still investigating Castaneda’s death.
