Habitat for Humanity builds 59 new homes in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – With shovels in hand, dozens of volunteers spent hours working on lots for 59 new Habitat for Humanity homes.

"I mean for me it's one of my biggest accomplishments. Seeing families that basically don't have anywhere to live and to go and then have a house that's going to be their own," said Vanessa Rincon, a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.

Volunteers with Bank of America and the National Council of La Raza joined forces to help build one of Orlando's newest neighborhoods in the Malibu Groves community. The goal is to help people who do not have the means to buy a home find affordable housing.

"Two years ago this 11 acres was desolate. It was dumping ground and thanks to a lot of people within our community we were able to come in and soon we'll have completed 59 homes," said Catherine Steck McManus, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando.

Bank of America also donated $40,000 dollars to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando to help continue the work.

The 59 homes inside Butler's Preserve are expected to be finished by the summer of 2017.
