For people who have to evacuate, hotels become an easy option for people who don’t have family or friends to stay with and don’t want to stay in a shelter. Before booking a hotel, you should ask about distress rates.

Because Florida is under a state of emergency, it is against the law to excessively increase prices on essentials, and that includes hotel rooms.

If any hotel appears to be raising room rates ahead of the storm, contact the Florida Price Gouging Hotline at 1-866-966-7226.
