VIERA, Fla. – A Brevard County school board member is revealing more about what was behind a unanimous vote to place the district’s interim superintendent on administrative leave.
“There have been several of our employees that have come forward making complaints about a hostile work environment directly at the hands of the superintendent,” Megan Wright said about Dr. Robert Schiller.
As interim superintendent, Schiller was expected to leave Brevard Public Schools at the end of the school year after the district picked a long-term superintendent, but Tuesday night a discussion about his contract and a letter Schiller wrote criticizing the board may have changed those plans.
Without elaborating, board chair Matt Susin also commented there were accusations against Schiller.

Wright expanded on those comments Wednesday.
“Just berating employees, that’s a common thing that I’ve heard from several people—that they have been talked down to, that they have never been spoken to the way that Dr. Schiller was speaking to them,” Wright said.
The board member said some of those employees have worked with the district for decades and under several superintendents.
Board member Jennifer Jenkins said placing Schiller on leave makes the search for the next superintendent even more challenging.
The district just parted ways with Dr. Mark Mullins in December 2022.
“I’m sure people who were watching last night, people who have applied, people who are still considering to apply, and they’re probably questioning the future of Brevard Public Schools,” Jenkins said.
Those interested in becoming the next superintendent of Brevard Public Schools have until Friday to apply.
