Domestic battery call ends in pursuit, crash in Marion County

Suspect crashed into concrete pole, had to be extricated, deputies say

OCALA, Fla. – A suspect in a domestic battery call crashed into a concrete pole Monday morning as he fled Marion County deputies in the Ocala area, according to officials.

The incident started along SE 58th Avenue, north of SE Maricamp Road.

The sheriff’s office said they responded to the domestic battery call but the suspect in the case drove off in a silver SUV, forcing deputies to start searching for the suspect. Deputies said they pursued the suspect when they located the vehicle and the suspect drove off.

Deputies said shortly after the suspect crashed into a concrete pole in the 2400 block of SE Baseline Road. Ocala Electric Utility had to disconnect the power so that Marion County Fire Rescue could extricate the driver, who was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Charges are forthcoming and an investigation is ongoing.
