20-year-old man faces charges in deadly Ocoee shooting

OCOEE, Fla. – Ocoee police announced they have arrested a man they say is responsible for the shooting death of another man on Aug. 16.

According to a news release, officers responded to the 300 block of Montheath Circle in Ocoee in reference to a shooting.

Police said they discovered 20-year-old James Givens who was suffering from gunshot wounds. Given was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to a news release, 20-year-old Amarien Shamar faces charges related to the deadly shooting. Police said Shamar and the victim knew each other and the s hooting did not appear to be a random act.

“The suspect was arrested within the first 48 hours, in partnership with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the State Attorney’s Office,” the release read in part.

Although an arrest has been made in this case, Ocoee police said it is still an active ongoing investigation and anyone with information related to this homicide is asked to contact Central Florida Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
