BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A Brevard County man was arrested last week after he was accused of brandishing a firearm over being “ding-dong ditched,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said that on Wednesday morning, they responded to a report about a “disturbance” at a nearby home.

Upon arrival, they found Eric Rodgers, 60, who had a firearm in his pocket, which was taken away during the investigation, deputies stated.

In a probable cause affidavit, investigators said that they learned several children had “ding-dong ditched” Rodgers’ home and ran away, though he was able to find two of them across the street.

Rodgers then confronted them, yelling and making threats that “people get shot when they mess around” while at the same time brandishing the base of his firearm from his pocket, the affidavit shows.

Rodgers admitted to kicking one of the children in the butt and told the child to “spread the word amongst others,” deputies added.

According to detectives, a witness reported that she had tried to intervene, but Rogers said something to the effect of “Want to watch me shoot a kid?”

As a result, Rodgers was taken into custody. He faces charges of child abuse and aggravated assault, though he bonded out of jail on Thursday evening.
