ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A rash of car burglaries targeting Hondas were reported over the weekend at the University of Central Florida, according to the UCF Police Department.
In a release, police said the burglaries were reported in the B7 and B8 parking lots on the main campus. All of the vehicles that were targeted were Hondas, the release shows.
“The message was to make sure that we’re paying attention to locking our cars. Especially in these lots, B7 and B8,” said Jack Caffey, a freshman. “... I just don’t leave anything in my car. Even if it does get broken-in to, there’s nothing they can take.”
Police explained that to gain entry, the burglars broke the plastic cover of the driver’s side door handle, and the key cylinder was removed.
“Made me worried, because I always lock my car, but you never know who’s walking around,” said Maggie Dignan, a sophomore at the university.
The police department announced that detectives are investigating the burglaries, including reviewing surveillance footage of the area, and police will continue to patrol UCF’s campuses 24/7.
