ORLANDO, Fla. – A $500,000 federal grant will help support the effort to connect SunRail and Brightline between Orlando International Airport and the I-Drive area, and beyond.
Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost, D-Orlando, announced the grant from the Federal Rail Administration Wednesday.

The goal of the grant is to help the Florida Department of Transportation develop a scope, schedule and cost estimate for the project and its development program to build railroad tracks for both Brightline and SunRail as part of the Sunshine Corridor.
SunRail’s partners are working on connecting the commuter rail system with a line from Orlando International Airport to the International Drive area, and eventually to the Disney area.
Meanwhile, Brightline is looking at connecting Orlando to Tampa with a line that extends from the airport down through Disney and to Tampa via I-4.
There is no timeline for when these projects would be completed.
