Police found the teen had been shot by the homeowner and he was taken to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The department said the teen may be connected with another call they received earlier Thursday of an attempted break-in at another residence in the area.

The occupants of the home on Pine Needle Drive were not injured and are cooperating with police.

No other details have been released, including the name of the 16-year-old.

An investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Chris Villafane at the police department at 352-557-8893.
