Vehicle found in Melbourne hit-and-run crash that killed 23-year-old man

Detectives working to identify driver

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The vehicle in a Melbourne hit-and-run crash that killed a 23-year-old man on Christmas has been located, according to the police department.

Drew Sofranko, 23, was hit by a white Chevrolet Malibu around 12:20 a.m. in the area of South Harbor City Boulevard and Strawbridge Avenue. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The Melbourne Police Department said on Friday that detectives found the vehicle and are working to determine who was driving it when the crash happened.

News 6 learned that Sofranko, who was from Pennsylvania, was the best man at his father’s wedding over Christmas weekend. His family said he went out downtown on Christmas Eve but never made it back to their vacation rental.

“He gave a great best man speech, probably one of the best I’ve ever heard,” father Doug Sofranko said. “I may be a little biased, but it was tremendous.”

Police provided an image, pictured below, that closely resembles the vehicle in the hit-and-run.
