The New Year’s Day winning $842.4 million Powerball ticket was sold in Michigan, according to a news release.
The single ticket matched all six numbers for the fifth-largest Powerball jackpot, and tenth-largest U.S. lottery jackpot ever won, officials said.

According to the release, final ticket sales pushed the jackpot beyond its earlier estimate of $810 million to $842.4 million at the time of the drawing.

Officials said other winning tickets in Monday’s Powerball drawing include four tickets that were sold in Florida, California, Connecticut, and Maryland that matched all five white balls to win $1 million prizes.
According to the release, the winning numbers in the Monday, Jan. 1, drawing were white balls 12, 21, 42, 44, 49 and red Powerball 1. The Power Play multiplier was 3X.
The jackpot winner will have the choice between an annuitized prize of $842.4 million or a lump sum payment of $425.2 million, before taxes.
Powerball tickets are $2 per play and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
