ORLANDO, Fla. – New York-based Cario INC., a blockchain technology network led by automotive tech veterans, told News 6 it is getting close to bringing paperless car titles to DMVs in the Northeast and Northwest starting in 2024.
Cario founder and CEO Nathan Hecht confirmed preliminary conversations are underway with 40 DMVs, including 21 “in-person” presentations.
“We have about 12 that are close,” Hecht told News 6. ”And we hope in Q-1 of 2024 to start to launch some of those programs in some of those states.”
Hecht declined to name specific states, but a company executive did tell News 6 that Florida could be on the list of states using the E-Title system.
“We have started conversations with Florida,” Cario EVP Jamie Solomon said. “We are hiring a Florida lobbyist as well, so we are very interested in the Florida landscape.”
The company website describes Cario as a “transparent and secure network that allows radically quicker, cheaper and safer automotive transactions.”
“The number one thing we are focused on is ease of use for everybody who touches this platform,” Hecht told News 6. “What may concern Florida may be different for Tennessee.”
Hecht said most states are focused on affordability and ease of transitioning from paper to blockchain technology.
“There are official state mandates across the U.S. right now to modernize the DMV,” Hecht said. “I should be able to buy and sell my vehicle really easily and efficiently and instead, it’s a burdensome process.”
Hecht is convinced there will be a “paradigm shift” from the current paper experience to the digital experience that Cario Inc. is introducing.
“You will be able to do it literally in minutes all on a super easy to use, consumer friendly platform,” Hecht said.
As for the company name, Hecht said there was no story behind the story.
“It’s just a name that we thought was appropriate for this platform, Hecht said. “Car-i-o, Cario, we just sort of put it together, we think it goes well.”
