Dozens of Orange County students can’t return to class after failing to answer audit

300 families at Timber Creek High School never turned in enrollment audit

ORLANDO, Fla. – Some parents of students at Timber Creek High School are dealing with their child’s schedule being put on pause after Orange County Public Schools asked them to provide proof of address for an enrollment audit.

During November, OCPS sent out four notices to parents whose children were randomly selected for an enrollment audit.

The messages ask parents or guardians to provide proof of address or else their child’s schedule will be put on pause. As of Nov. 28, the district tells us 300 families had still not turned in their proof of address.

According to OCPS, the audits happen regularly. They said students are chosen at random and for this recent audit at Timber Creek, around 800 students were selected.

The district said having your child’s schedule put on pause is different than being unenrolled. If your child is unenrolled, then they are no longer an OCPS student. A pause in the schedule means the child can come back to school once parents provide proof of address. District officials said it’s just like if the child had been absent for a day.

If a student’s schedule has been paused – the district said this does not mean they are unenrolled.

OCPS sent News 6 the four messages that were sent to parents throughout November. The first correspondence went out on November 1 explaining the audit and telling parents when they could bring the information to the school.

The second notice went out on Nov. 9, the third went out on Nov. 14, and the fourth went out on Nov. 28.

The district said it’s important parents update their information with the district.

They said parents still have the opportunity to show their proof of address and their child’s schedule will resume as normal. But – if they find the student lives outside of the school zone, the transfer process to the correct school will begin.

If you’re a parent and you find yourself in this situation and need to provide proof of address, the district is asking you to make an appointment with the Student Enrollment Office.
