SANFORD, Fla. – Three Sanford-area schools have canceled their classes for Wednesday due to a water main break on Tuesday afternoon, according to Seminole County Public Schools.

SCPS announced that Millennium Middle, Midway Elementary and Midway Safe Harbor schools will be canceled due to issues with the water pressure, so restrooms are still not fully functional.

This cancellation includes after-school activities, extracurriculars, athletics and KidZone.

In addition, the greater Midway area of Sanford was placed under a boil water notice following the water main break.

Drinking fountains have been disabled at the three campuses and will remain inaccessible until the boil water notice is lifted, SCPS officials said.

The city of Sanford said a contractor broke a main, causing a water outage for some homes and businesses. The main has been repaired and water service has been restored.

However, the residents and businesses in this area will remain under a boil water notice for the next two days while water samples are analyzed.

People should boil all water for one minute for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing fruits and vegetables and dishes prior to use.

The boil water notice affects city of Sanford customers in the following area:

  • Northeast corner of State Road 46 from the west side of Millennium Middle School to East Lake Mary Boulevard
  • North from there to Celery Avenue and the Indian Mound Village, including Chickasaw Drive and Powhatan Drive
  • Across to Sipes Avenue and down to East 20th Street
  • From East 20th Street down to Brisson Avenue and back to State Road 46

A map of the affected area is also available on the Sanford website.
