During the pursuit, deputies said they deployed stop sticks on West New York Avenue near a Circle K gas station outside of DeLand.

Investigators said Sylvain was taken into custody after he bailed out of the pickup truck and ran a short distance into some woods. He’s also accused of dropping off a handgun at the edge of the woods which bore a ground-off serial number, deputies said.

Sylvain was booked into the Volusia County Jail and charged with grand theft of a vehicle, grand theft of a firearm, reckless driving and resisting arrest without violence.

The sheriff’s office said he’s being held on a $25,000 bond.
