DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport for 2023 surpassed that of 2019, the airport announced Wednesday.

The airport said in 2023, 719,775 passengers flew in or out of the airport compared to 713,287 in 2019.

“In the years since the pandemic shuttered commercial air service, we’ve used 2019 as a benchmark for normal passenger traffic levels, so it’s satisfying to see our numbers have officially recovered,” said Joanne Magley, airport manager for air service, marketing and customer experience.

Overall capacity at the airport last year was up 25.1% versus 2022 and up 7.1% versus the numbers in 2019.

Helping build on the traffic, the airport said airlines continue to invest by adding more flights and service. The airport said last year, American Airlines resumed seasonal, non-stop service to Washington, D.C., and Dallas Fort-Worth from February through April and to Philadelphia from April through August. Delta Air Lines added non-stop, special event flights from Detroit for the Daytona 500 weekend.

The airport also welcomed new carriers including ultra-low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines in June.

“Our air service development team continues to nurture the relationships with our existing airlines and potential new carriers, and we are confident our passenger traffic numbers will continue to rise,” Magley said.
