SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – On Wednesday, Seminole County presented its final designs for its project to help reduce flooding along the Midway basin.
Shelton Eudell said he has spent his entire life near Washington Avenue, and he welcomes the design plans.
“We need it. You have to give some to get some. We need to get that water off of us,” Eudell said.
The design includes five separate areas, each assigned its own unique improvement plan. The infrastructure changes include widening drainage pipes and ditches, along with constructing new ponds.

Last July, county leaders showed drawings of the plans following a $7.2 million grant.
Overall, the county said the goal is to upgrade the most high risk areas of the Midway basin to an A or B flood risk rating.
Project leaders said before any official work can begin, several areas in the design will require permission from land owners.
“It is only a drainage easement interest, you still own the underlying land,” a county contractor told members of the community during the meeting.
There has not been a specific construction date set.
