ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando City Council is set to vote on a traffic study that will try to prevent fatalities at several roads and intersections in the city.
The city of Orlando is seeking whether to enter an agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation and the US Department of Transportation to receive grant funding for what is being called Orlando CROSS: Connecting Residents on Safe Streets.
The grant would fund the development of “Vision Zero,” a regionwide push aimed at vastly improving safety on the roads.

It would examine six corridors across Orlando:
- Kirkman Road from Conroy Road to Raleigh Street;
- S.R. 50/Colonial Drive from Ferguson Drive to Maguire Boulevard;
- Orange Blossom Trail from Winifred Street to SR 50;
- Orange Avenue from SR 408 to SR 50, and Rosalind/Magnolia Avenue from SR 408 to SR 50;
- Orange Avenue from Pineloch Avenue to SR 408; and,
- Semoran Boulevard from Grant Street to Dahlia Drive and Curry Ford Road from Larkin Avenue to Bowen Drive.
Vision Zero Central Florida is happening through a $3.79 million Safe Streets and Roads for All federal grant.
Every week, five people die and 35 people are seriously injured in Central Florida crashes, according to MetroPlan.
