Orange County family receives affordable mortgage home thanks to Habitat for Humanity

Organization accepting 500 applications from Central Floridians

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – For Margarita and Richard having a home was always the goal.

Both are local church pastors and while Margarita is the only one with income, she said the struggle has been finding an affordable place for their family over the last several years.

“As far as for me for work, I’m actually on disability as well as being a pastor because I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, and I don’t have a regular job so for this to be happening it’s an amazing blessing especially when you want to provide for your family,” Richard said.

But that all changed when they were selected by the Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando and Osceola County, which partnered with Park Square Homes to make their goal a reality.

“It’s tough to be a homeowner and with Habitat for Humanity we want to make sure that financially you’re prepared and ready,” said Catherine Steck McManus, president & CEO of Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando & Osceola County.

The family of four will be able to have a brand new three-bedroom home in Orange County, one they can afford compared to other homes on the market.

“Just soaking it in because we are not used to this... we are used to giving and pouring into people and all of this is a little nerve-wracking,” Margarita said.

Crews have been working nonstop because they need to finish the home by Friday, Feb. 9th.

“I think the message for me at least is that you know - them providing a blessing for us we pray that God blesses them 100 full for it because what they are doing, they don’t have to do it.. but they choose to do it,” Richard said.
